Why the 23 Things?

I guess I might need 23 more things in my life!  This is my first time blogging.  My dad, at age 78, has been blogging for years.  Much like Face Book,  I thought I might be able to live without blogging.  Face Book came about because my patrons in the library were constantly on the social network, so I thought it would be a good idea to know something about it.
Now, today, I have received an email from the State Library about this 23 Thing for Professional Development course.  It sounded very interesting.  I've been teaching a beginning computer class for our community and feel as though I am just touching the surface of the technology that is out there.  I need to know more.  My whole goal in teaching these computer classes is to get our area of the world caught up with technology.  We are in a place where some people still only receive "dial-up" internet service and are afraid to surf the web. Most don't have a computer in their homes and depend on our library for the most current technology, which we don't have.  However, I am working on that part as well.
Do I need 23 more things in my life?  Let's see...I've a husband, two teenage boys (who would love this class) and 30 milking cows outside of my position here at the library.  I'm game for 23 more things.  Bring it on!

  1. Well, working in an area where the Internet has not yet become ubiquitous in the lives of your library users would imply that your participating in this program is an excellent idea. Your users probably rely on your knowledge and expertise as they dip their toes into the online world!

  2. Yeah! Thank you for the post! Yes, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the knowledge they expect me to have. We librarians can't know everything :-). Yet, it is quite exciting working with my pioneering seniors in the new online world.
